Student Shipping
There are many things to consider when you are a student shipping your stuff to your new college or school. Students must consider what exactly is necessary to excel in the school place, specifically what to bring and what not to bring. Most things you will be able to purchase at your college town, while at the same time there are somethings that you just can't leave home without.
For students there are generally three categories that you need to consider when you are shipping to your new school. The first is excessive baggage, when you fly to school there will be rules and fees to regulate how much you can bring with you on the airplane. Most planes now charge $50 for any additional bags beyond the single carry on and the single check in bag that you are allowed. Consider this wisely when you are packing and planning your move. Be sure to pack and bring as much in those two bags as possible. If you are moving and having a parent help you, be sure to utilize their checked in bags as well.
Boxed and single items are those items that absolutely must be shipped in boxes and cannot be transported efficiently on the planes carry on luggage. These are things like cases, books, picture frames, etc. These are the things that help make your room, your room while you are in college. These items will require you to ship them, which can cost a pretty penny if you aren't smart about it. Be sure to take a look at many different shipping and transporting companies as pricing can vary tremendously from one to the next.Furniture is something that most people want to ship, or find a way to bring to college. This is simply unrealistic and you should hear this now, before it is too late. Furniture can typically cost more than the item itself to ship to school, therefore you will either need to buy new furniture when you get to school, or find a solution to buy used furniture. I'd say buy furniture used, and off of Craigslist if possible. Since you are in college don't worry about buying the best, you can do that once you get that job when your out of college. I'd buy some used furniture with the intention of destroying it. College is a busy place, and you'll not want to worry about having friends over or getting your stuff destroyed.
Before finalizing your shipping, we suggest learning about student shipping specials as well as getting quotes from multiples companies as well. There will be various rates and ground will typically be the cheapest way to ship, but again make sure you spend some time researching your student shipping solution.
